Molecular Tests
Molecular Tests
At Biohellenika there is a complete molecular analysis laboratory, where it is possible to diagnose hereditary diseases, as well as to check the predisposition for the exhibition of the so far medically known diseases. There is also the possibility of genetic counseling at families subjected to hereditary diseases or concerned about pathologic genes in their DNA.
The detection of bacteria and viruses is quantitative, which offers the possibility of evaluation of the therapy efficacy.
These exams are important and helpful to the couple, because:
- Infertility issues occur at 10-15% of the couples.
- 40% of the issues are attributed to women and 40% to men.
- Causative factors: genes, thrombophillia, viral and other infections.
- Thrombophilia
- Viral infections: herpes virus, such as Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV type 2) are responsible for 70% of the cases of women infertility, but also for serious damages at infants.
- Non-viral infections: in 30-40% of the women infertility cases the damage is located in the oviducts.
- In 72% of these women, the cause is genital infection by microorganisms such as Toxoplasma, Chlamydia, Ureoplasma, etc.
- The presence of the above microorganisms as well as of HSV should be tested before the conception, while retesting of them and of CMV is necessary at the third month of pregnancy.
- Especially in the case of viral infections, it is necessary to have quantitative results, since this contributes to the monitorship of the patient’s response to the treatment.
- Detections of the above pathogens through quantitative Real Time PCR are extremely more accurate than antibody detection or microbial cultures, since the technique detects the genome of the microorganism.
