THE USEFULNESS OF MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS 

In response to publication in Serbia about the importance and the usefulness of mesenchymal stem cells, Biohellenika informs the parents about the current applications of this type of stem cells.

1. There are 329 approved by FDA, USA clinical trials concerning the use of mesenchymal  stem cells. www.clinicaltrials.gov

2. Sources of mesenchymal stem cells are: umbilical cord tissue (Wharton’s Jelly)-deciduous tooth pulp, wisdom tooth pulp, adipose tissue.

3. Mesenchymal stem cells currently are used in:

Treatment of autoimmune diseases, like multiple sclerosis (1, 2), inflammatory bowel diseases (3, 4), rheumatoid arthritis (5), diabetes type I (6,7), idiopathic lung fibrosis (8), Graft Versus Host Disease (9).
