Allogeneic cord blood for cereblal palsy teratment

The use of umbilical cord blood to treat cerebral palsy

Umbilical cord blood has been used since 2010 to treat cerebral palsy in newborns, which is caused by prematurity and prolonged poor oxygenation. Today on clinicaltrials.gov there are 26 active clinical trials using cord blood to treat children with cerebral palsy and 39 scientific publications on the results of the clinical trials.  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=cord The treatment was started in 2008 by the Duke University and Hematology Clinic and initially involved children who had their own stem cells to treat brain injuries and neurological disorders up to the age of 8.  Then the cord blood  was used by siblings for the same cases and today the age has been extended up to 25 years.
From 2024 the same clinic announced that they are able to use cord blood from public banks with close  compatibility. Duke University has already informed the families and invite them to  take part in a multicenter phase III clinical study, involving the use of cord blood  in patients with neurological disorders from unrelated donors. https://parentsguidecordblood.org/en/news/duke-eap-now-includes-unrelated-cord-blood +blood+cerebral+palsy&schema=alltitle
