NEW PAPER PUBLISHED BY THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT OF BIOHELLENIKA

R&D Department recenlty published a new paper in Histology-Embryology Journal 2015, issue 30, about the pluripotency of Whartons Jelly stem cells.  The umbilical cord Whartons Jelly clasically contains mesenchymal stem cells that are used to treat malignant diseases in combination with cord blood, autoimmune and degenerative    diseases.  For the last two cases only autologous stem cells can be used.

According to our study,  Whartons Jelly contains more than one stem cells populations with different properties. To collect appropriatelly all these populations special  techniques  must be applied. It is important to use  a method that provides the  greatest number of stem cells and the collection of all kinds of cord tissue stem cells. Whartons Jelly is a specific embryonic tissue, the only embryonic tissue that remains in newborn, extended out of  the external wall of the vessels and clasically  contains  mesencymal cells. There were some evidence that whartons jelly contains more than one cell population with different properties in cultures.

Biohellenikas R&D group by changing the collection methode discovers a new cell population, more undifferentiated, that matches to  embryonic like  stem cells (ELSCs),  today believed  that these are the real stem cells.

These cells also exist in cord blood and  needs special  collection method, because are smaller than the more mature cells (hematopoietic and mesenchymal), and need one more step for their collection.

ELSCs exist in niche in all organs of the body and provide  the regeneration and finally the therapeutic potential into the injured organs. ELSCs  in niche are activated by  the administered stem cells, migrate into the place of injury  and multiple the therapieutic effect.

Taking in mind the importance of these cells in Regenerative Medicine, Biohellenika gives great attention to this cell population, and apply special methods, in routin  for its clients,  for their  collection. First proceed the total length of the cord, second  enzymatically  digest the cord  and the most important third step that collects this small in size population on top of the clasic mesenchymal cells.

This procedure  ensures ready to use cells, in great number and best quality for therapeutic application.
